Could Nottingham Forest move in for Newcastle United midfielder this January?

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback is set to leave the Premier League side this January.

The 30-year-old has fallen way down the pecking order at St James’ Park and could potentially have his contract terminated, according to a report by The Telegraph.

Steve Bruce’s side want to trim down on their squad this winter and could seek to release Colback to help balance the books. He could now be looked at by Championship sides.

Colback, who is a former England Under-20 international, spent the end of the 2017/18 season and the whole of the last campaign on loan in the second tier at Nottingham Forest and became a hit at the City Ground.

With his time at Newcastle seemingly over, could the Reds swoop for him this January to bolster their options in midfield going into the second-half of the campaign.

Colback is a player who would add some more experience into the Forest ranks and already knows the club. Sabri Lamouchi’s promotion chasing side are currently 5th in the table and two points into the Play-Offs.

The experienced central midfielder has racked up over 300 appearances so far in his career. He started out at Sunderland and rose up through their youth ranks and went on to play 135 times, as well as having a loan spell away at Ipswich Town.

Colback made the controversial switch to Newcastle in 2014 and has been on the books of the North-East side since then. Could he make the permanent move to Forest next month after his two loan spells?
