Town and Doncaster Linked With Former Miller Ball
Wednesday, 12th Jun 2019 10:44

Town and Doncaster Rovers are reported to be interested in released Rotherham defender Dominic Ball, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Aberdeen.

Reports earlier in the week claimed free agent Ball, who is primarily a centre-half but also operates as a full-back or as a defensive midfielder, had turned down the offer of a contract by the Dons, however, according to the Press and Journal, the terms are still on the table but with the player having told manager Derek McInnes that he’d prefer to move back to England with the Blues and fellow League One side Rovers both interested.

Centre-half is an area of the squad which Town boss Paul Lambert appears certain to add to over the summer with skipper Luke Chambers and Toto Nsiala his only senior central defenders with loanee Matthew Pennington and short-term signing James Collins both having departed.

Youngsters Luke Woolfenden and Corrie Ndaba will both hope to put themselves in Lambert’s first-team thoughts in pre-season.

Ball, 23, was a youth player with local side Watford before moving on to Tottenham’s academy. While at Spurs he spent time on loan at Cambridge United and Rangers before joining Rotherham on a permanent basis in August 2016.

The 6ft-tall Welwyn Garden City-born defender was a Miller for three years but made only 14 starts and one sub appearance for them, spending all but five months of that time out on loan at Peterborough and then Aberdeen, for whom he made 31 starts and nine sub appearances last season.

Ball was capped by Northern Ireland at U15, U16, U17, U19 and U21 levels and by England’s U19s and U20s.

Released by donny. Really?!! I know he's free and he's got two feet but really?! What part of the above suggests he's better than what we have? (Which is what we need.) Has ME basically said to PL you can have any player you like as long as he's free?! Not learning are we?!

Bluearmy_81 , released by Rotherham , not Donny.

Bluearmy if you're going to spout your usual drivel at least read the article.

He's turned down an offer from Aberdeen as he wants to move back to England.

Having lived up there years ago I can wholly sympathise with him 😂

I think if everyone ignored Bluearmy comments he would stop commenting. I think he gets off on being marked down. Poor man.

In my stance of wanting better for ITFC... If we don't spend money we will never see the top flight again. Some of you seem ok with that but to me that would be a tragedy. All because the owner couldn't invest a Littlemore and fans were so happy to back him despite the harm done. You lot kill me!!

There are many instances of players moving to another club on a Free Transfer who go on to be excellent signings and if all you are paying is wages, do you have a lot to loose? In addition there are many instances of big money players not fitting in, breaking the salary structure, no performing and being a waste of space and money. We need to trust the professionals at the club, i.e. PL and his team in identifying the players who will fit the desired playing structure for Div1, will not cause massive unrest with the other playing staff, etc.

Could he make the step up from the SPL to League 1?

Free or fee, does it really matter if the player enhances the squad? I would've thought he might favour Donny over us (if there is any truth to this news) but if he wants to come further south east then good luck to him, and us. Seems a fairly solid CB looking at the stars and he's still only 23. COYB!

Blue_army1.... transfer fee's do not always dictate what is a good signing. What do you think of;

Christophe Berra
Gareth MaCauley
Damien Delaney

I am not saying we should sign this guy, but you need to revise your business plan... it stinks.

Bluearmy is a troll. Pure and simple. or just not bright. He probably moans on and on about Marriott being released by MM....though that wouldn't make any sense because he was free so can't have been any good!

Utility defensive player who can stay fit and played regularly at similar level to league 1 for past 2 years.... how is this not a realistic option. Obviously we need to protect the path to 1st team of youth but PL will have final say and much of our success to come will be determined by his ability to identify talent and embed into a winning team..... remember those!

the fact he was released by Rotherham must say something. but i have faith in PL and he know what he is doing.

Tidy signing for the season ahead if this comes to fruition. Played regularly in the Scottish premiership so cant be too bad. I'm sure money will be spent but as with any business it needs to be done responsibly and for the right players. Bluearmy81 is very good at telling others what to do with their money and has no business sense or long term plan. Glad you guys have seen what a goon he is.

Bluearmy81. When will you get it, that a free transfer is anything but free. There are costs involved. Ill give you the example I often use, in James Milner's "free" transfer to liverpool, which cost liverpool a £15m signing on fee plus agents fees, and wages. Apparently, also for instance Norwood has received a £900,000 signing on fee plus wages of £1.25m over the best 3 seasons, plus agents fees. So u tell me how Evans hasn't invested in the squad? Hes actually invested in excess of £100m in the squad over the years hes been here. Tho, apart from the £15m each that Keane and Jewell had to spend on transfer fees , most has been for " frees", or loans, that money has still been spent. I accept, compared to some clubs, that's still not much comparatively, but try telling derby fans spending multimillions gets you success. Whereas, the 1st time Burnley went up to the pl in recent times they spent just £750,000. At the end of the day, its about who you sign and how they fit in to the team that is important. You are just typical of some of those who post on here who, if we were to pay a transfer fee for this player would say great, but because hes on a free, think hes rubbish, without even having seen him play. Pathetic.

I think the confusion is that he was released, suggesting at first glance he was not wanted. As people say, read it properly and you see Aberdeen want him, but he is open to offers from England. If he's not overly in demand, why not give him a trial?

Sounds like he could be decent
but I think we need a Left Footed CB
- to replace Smith, Berra & even longer ago - Clarke (&Webster - good with both feet)

That was one of our biggest issues last season - not having a balance across the back four
