Keane Hopeful of Return at Bolton
Tuesday, 26th Mar 2019 19:17

Striker Will Keane says he expects to return to training next week and hopes to be back in the squad for the game at Bolton Wanderers a week on Saturday.

The 26-year-old, who is on loan from Hull City and consequently ineligible for Saturday’s match against the Tigers at Portman Road, suffered a hamstring injury having netted from the penalty spot in the 1-1 draw at Wigan last month, his third goal for the Blues.

“I’m back outside now and if all goes well, I’ll be back training with the lads next week,” the former Manchester United trainee told the club site.

“My rehab has been going to plan. I’ve not had any setbacks and I hope it stays that way.

"My aim was always to get back for the game after Hull. I’m not sure if I will be ready to start but hopefully I will be fit enough to be available for selection.”

Keane, who recently switched international allegience to the Republic of Ireland having represented England at U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 levels, is out of contract at the end of the season. Hull have an option for a further year which they are almost certain not to take up.

No point rushing players back now anyway, better to look to next season (although he may not be here!)

how long has keane got left on his hull contract does anybody know? and would he really be prepared to play for maybe as little as around 1/4 of his current wage? i doubt he could command the same level contract as he got at hull given his injury record, but if we tried to get him on the cheap there could well be a rival or two prepared to offer more than we can realistically afford in league one. i'd like to think we would be able to get judge or keane but no guarantees at all and not getting my hopes up on either. and was also rather keen on norwood from tranmere. if we could sign judge and norwood i'd be over the moon!

while i've mostly liked what i've seen of keane, if he and his agent were fishing for too high wages for league one, i really wouldn't be opposed to us trying to entice norwood instead.

Would signing Will Keane be a big risk, given his injury record? We have a really bad habit of picking up injury prone players. Can we afford to do this again?

Hope so. We are a better side with him in it.

Keane is probably our only striker who had the ability to brings others into play on a consistent basis. Keep him fit in league one with Harrison and Jackson I can't see us needing any further additions on a permanent basis...dare I say it a loan who isn't Quaner whilst we are waiting on sears and morris would be of benefit how ever.

Rationally, WK has not been a stand-out player in a pretty poor/injury ravaged forward line.
I stand to be corrected but is his tenure with us the most goals he's scored?
He does put effort in but certainly doesn't strike me as a player who would be a better option than the players we have on our books and the U23's.
