Ipswich Town: Opta supercomputer predicts Championship top two

The Blues sit top of the Championship with three games left and are embroiled in what appears to be a three-way fight for the top two spots.

Leicester City are a point behind Town with a game in hand, while Leeds United are two back, having played the same number of matches.

Both Leicester and Leeds lost last weekend - and the Opta supercomputer is now predicting that Town WILL go up in its latest models.

Writing on the Opta website, analysts said: "According to the Opta supercomputer, Leicester’s chances of promotion have taken a slight hit, but they remain favourites, with an 85.7% likelihood of going up.

"Not bad for a team that have lost three of their last five games. Their game in hand over Leeds and Ipswich is likely helping them retain their favourites tag, for now.

"Leeds have taken a greater hit given their loss came on home soil. Daniel Farke’s men have dropped from a 59.3% chance of going up to 42.7%.

"Ipswich take most of those percentage points themselves as the Tractor Boys rise up from 50.8% to 64.2% for a top-two finish."

The same analysts also warn 'not to sleep on Southampton.' They won 3-0 against Preston on Tuesday night and will play three more times before Town next kick a ball at Hull City on Saturday, April 27 (8pm).

The computer is currently predicting that Leeds, Southampton, West Brom and Norwich will make the play-offs, with Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town joining Rotherham in falling through the relegation trapdoor.
