talkSPORT betting tips – Best football bets and expert advice for Tuesday 16 April

Tuesday sees the return of the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain aiming to overturn first-leg defeats against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

There is also a big game in the Championship as Southampton aim to keep their slim automatic promotion chances alive against Preston, while there are also plenty of matches taking place in Leagues One and Two.

Bet of the day

Barcelona @ 11/10

Barcelona extended their unbeaten run to 13 matches with a 1-0 win over Cadiz on Saturday and they could reach 14 games by beating Paris Saint-Germain for the second time in a week when the two clash for their second leg of their quarter-final.

Barca have won their last six matches and were impressive when landing a first-leg victory in Paris, winning the shot on target count 7-6 and keeping Kylian Mbappe quiet throughout.

Xavi rested plenty of key players against Cadiz, including the likes of Jules Kounde and Ilkkay Gundogan, meaning they should come into this clash relatively fresh, which is important given PSG had no match over the weekend.

Luis Enrique’s side failed to win any of their group stage away games, losing at Newcastle and AC Milan in that run, suggesting they could be in for a tough time against Barca, who have dominated Atletico Madrid and Napoli in recent weeks.

Special of the day

Southampton, Portsmouth and Colchester treble @ 17/4

Away from the continental action, there are plenty of huge clashes on English shores, starting in the Championship where Southampton can keep the pressure on the faltering top three with a win over Preston.

Leicester, Ipswich and Leeds have all fluffed their lines multiple times recently and Saints, who have won 14 of their last 17 at St Mary’s and have beat in-form Coventry and Watford in their last two outings, could add a fourth contender to a three-horse race by dispatching North End, who have only three wins in their last 10 away games.

A win for Portsmouth on Tuesday would see them named League One champions and given they have won six of their last seven home matches, only dropping points in a draw with second-placed Derby in that run, Pompey should have no issues in beating Barnsley, who have one win in six, to send Fratton Park into pandamonium.

Colchester earned a huge win at Crawley on Saturday and can further enhance their survival chances with a win over League Two relegation rivals Grimsby, who have lost two of their last three games.

The U’s won the reverse fixture 3-2 and have only lost to top-two sides Wrexham and Stockport in their last six home games, suggesting they should be too strong for the Mariners on Tuesday.

Long shot of the day

Donyell Malen to score first in Borussia Dortmund v Atletico Madrid @ 6/1

Niclas Fullkrug’s goalless run has reached nine games and first-leg scorer Sebastien Haller will miss this clash, meaning Dortmund’s supporting cast will need to get amongst the goals if they are to overturn the tie.

Winger Donyell Malen has scored more goals than any other Borussia player this term, with 13, and, after missing the first leg, is fit again and should feature off the left flank for Dortmund.

The Dutchman has netted five times in his last eight games - with three of those strikes being openers - and could get the ball rolling for his side, who will be on the front-foot from the first whistle as they look to make amends following last week’s 2-1 defeat.
