Baggott in Teams of the Week
Monday, 15th Apr 2024 15:32

Blues on-loan central defender Elkan Baggott has been named in the League One and overall EFL Teams of the Week for his display for Bristol Rovers as they defeated Cheltenham Town 3-1 on Saturday.

Baggott netted his first goal for the Gas, who he joined on loan in January, against the Robins, who the Indonesia international was on loan with this time last season.

Also named in the League One select XI is former Blues loanee Luke Thomas, also with Bristol Rovers.

Well done Elkan. I hoped he would break into the Town 1st team this season, but with the way the season has gone, a loan to Rovers has been a really good move, and looks like he's really motoring now. Definitely one for the future at ITFC.

I hope he is not overlooked, he is most certainly a future Town first team player, good to see him doing so well.

As I stated when he first went out on loan, he is going to be a star of the future for Ipswich Town. Hopefully playing for Town in the Premier league !

Had a really tough start at Bristol but looks like he's starting to show his potential. His decision at the start of the season to not go out on loan (it was his) back fired on him so he's probably playing catch up. No player improves by not playing. His loan spell at Cheltenham knocked his confidence a bit but time is on his side. Next season is going to be a massive season for him with another loan spell hope fully at Bristol Rovers .

This is good news. My mates over in Bristol had suggested a few weeks ago that he should be sent back to us immediately. Their criticism of him was scathing. Thinking it was a wind up I checked the Rovers twitter page, where similar comments were being posted. Surprising, as I'd always thought he'd performed very well when called upon by us, and would have had no issues about him being used in our first string this season. Glad he's now settled, as he definitely has a successful future ahead of him.

Unfortunately the man who had issues about him being in the first team squad was Keiron McKenna and he's not a bad judge.

Just because am convinced he has the ability does not mean he gets a look-in at ITFC, but Elkan is a seriously impressive young man. How tough must it be to be shunted around lower League Clubs, be routinely rejected by his Parent Club and marry that with the adulation he receives on International duty; must be a head scrambler. He needs to be part of the squad next season or be sold; he has conducted himself too well not be deserving of that, but I remain convinced that given the right surroundings he would thrive back home at ITFC, whatever League we are in.

Do not think the assessments of EB not being welcome or selected for ITFC First Team squad are anywhere near the mark !
KM is the most excellent judge of potential, character and physical development AND I believe he thinks greatly of our young mam ,but equally wants him to experience men’s first team football week week out to literally grow into the dominant force he promises to become .
EB will surely be back at Town soon and continue towards a regular place on match days .
