Wardley can wipe out challenger

Two unbeaten heavyweights go head-to-head at the O2 on Sunday night when Wardley defends his British and Commonwealth titles against Clarke.

Ipswich fighter Wardley has steamed through the domestic scene, winning the Lonsdale belt against Nathan Gorman in 2022 and then defeating David Adeleye for the vacant Commonwealth strap Saudi Arabia last year.

Adeleye was a highly-rated and physically imposing prospect, but the Ladbroke Grove man was stopped in the seventh round of the Saudi contest and that made it 16 knockout victories in 17 bouts for Wardley.

The betting suggests that the clash with Clarke represents a stiffer test for the Suffolk man, who was sent off a 1/3 against Adeleye, and is 2/5 to see off the challenge of Big Fraze.

However, Clarke’s form in the professional ranks is weak at best and the 32-year-old has made hard work of getting past limited operators in Mariusz Wach and Kamil Sokolowski.

Big Fraze has bags of experience in the amateur ranks and his switch to the professional field was met with much hype.

However, that can be put down to the impact that fellow heavyweight Joe Joyce made when first moving into paid bouts and not on the performances that the Burton fighter has produced in his eight pro contests.

Wardley looks to have superior movement, speed and punch power and that could spell trouble for Frazer in his first real test.

At 4/5, the Ipswich fighter looks good value to stop his overrated rival.

Mean champion won’t waste time in Greenwich

Wardley has recorded 16 knockout victories in his 17 professional bouts and he undoubtedly has the punch power to hurt his rivals.

Adeleye was stopped in the seventh round last time out, Michael Coffie was beaten in the fourth prior to that and Gorman lasted only three.

Clarke has been an easy target for badly-conditioned, aged, inactive and slow opponents to find and that’s a world away from what will be coming his way on Sunday night.

Wardley should overwhelm his outclassed opponent and, although Big Fraze is a tough fighter, the 32-year-old may struggle to go beyond the eighth round against the Suffolk man.
